Cufflinks come in a huge range of different styles and patterns. They are basically designed with a front face which is the part that goes on the outside of the cuff and which people will see. This face is attached to a short post which goes through both cuffs and on the other end is a toggle which switches through 90° in order to lock the cufflink into position.
However, not all cufflinks are of the same design. Some have a toggle which is shaped like a bullet and are aptly named bullet back cufflinks, but others have a toggle shaped like a whale’s tail – hence whaleback. Other cufflinks don’t have a toggle at all. These may have two identical faces attached to each other by a chain, and unsurprisingly are called chain link cufflinks.
Still others may be all in one piece, as in the stud cufflinks which have a front face attached to a post which is curved and has a smaller ball at the other end and are called ball return. Stud cufflinks may also have an equal sized face on each end of the post with the same, or a different, pattern on each face. These are more difficult to put on because you have to force a face through the hole in the cuff. There is also a more modern design which is a locking dual action cufflink with a face and a rear return which is smaller, with both attached to a post in a way that they can both swivel open and shut.
Cufflinks can be made of many different metals but are often of silver or gold. Then again, they don’t have to be made of metal at all. You can get cufflinks made of wood and cufflinks made of leather. There are also cufflinks made of silk with a large knot at each end and they come in a variety of different colours.
Any Sort Of Face Design That You Can Imagine
As regards the face of cufflinks, these can have any sort of design that you can imagine. They may also have a face of enamel or glass, or they could be set with precious or semi-precious stones. If you have a pair of cufflinks set with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, or sapphires, they are going to be at the top of the range pricewise and can run into thousands.

As for English cufflinks, we produce several designs including the Three Lions in gold on red and the Crown in similar colouring. Then there is the English Oak Cufflink which is a nod to the oak tree in which Charles II hid from his pursuers after the battle of Worcester in 1651.This is depicted in gold on a dark green background.
