When many men think about cufflinks, they consider them as something of an afterthought, which is really the wrong way to go about things. Certainly, when you wear a shirt with double cuffs, your cufflinks are functional, but they shouldn’t be thought of purely on that basis.
Chosen properly, your cufflinks are a decorative piece of jewellery that can also make a statement about the man you are. After all, the girls wear jewellery – bracelets, brooches, necklaces, earrings, and so on, so why should they have all the fun? All right, we know some men wear those stainless-steel rings through their noses, as do women, but we have never seen the point of those. They are not decorative. Furthermore, they are most usually seen on bulls and cows, and sometimes pigs!
But a pair of cufflinks is a whole different ball game. And choosing designer cufflinks needs to be done with care. This is because you want to wear the correct cufflinks for each sort of occasion. So, if you are going to a formal event such as a wedding, or an evening at the theatre, or even to work at the office, your cufflinks need to be formal. On a more relaxed occasion, such as a day at the races, you can opt for something less formal.
What you do need to be aware of is to avoid those cheap (and nasty?) designs that you can find scattered about all over the internet. Sure, you can pick up a pair of cufflinks for less than a tenner, but do you really want to wear some of those?
Fools And Horses
And as for those “joke” cufflinks! Well, if you are going on a Jolly Boys Outing, as in Only Fools and Horses, you might just about get away with it. But I daresay that Boycie would have a word or two to say about them, even so.
The designer cufflinks that we produce at Wimbledon Cufflink Company are never produced in a rush. Indeed, we may create a dozen or more different designs around a given idea before we find the one that clicks with us. This means that we finish up offering cufflinks that are in good taste and send out the sort of message that a gentleman wants to be recognised for, rather than the “any old thing goes” sort of look. Take a browse through our gallery and you will see what we mean.
