Despite what you might read in the press, there are actually a number of differences between men and women, one of which is the amount of jewellery that women wear compared with men. By and large, most men wear very little, while a lot of women wear a lot of jewellery such as rings, bracelets, brooches, necklaces, earrings, and these are often large and extravagant looking, and also expensive.

In fact, many women collect jewellery in the same way that some men collect stamps – they simply cannot get enough of them. Hence why so many women have jewellery boxes. How many men do you know who have a jewellery box? Quite.

Certainly, some men have taken to wearing an earring, and in some cases even a nose stud or ring, but by and large our jewellery is restricted to an engagement and wedding ring (if married, of course), and perhaps an expensive watch, and that’s about it.

However, one way in which a man can express himself is in the wearing of cufflinks. If you are wearing a shirt with a double cuff, then cufflinks are an essential because they are the only way to hold the cuffs together.

And wearing cufflinks gives us guys a lot of scope for catching up with the ladies because the possibilities are almost endless. Let’s face it: if they can have fun with all their bracelets, brooches, rings, necklaces, and earrings, why shouldn’t we be allowed the same? Cufflinks are one small item of jewellery with which we can play around and express ourselves in the same way that the girls do. Indeed, this is why in recent years cufflinks have been making a comeback after being on the shelf for a few decades.

Be it chic or be it casual, cufflinks complete your look and are a way of showing a little more of the person that you are and the way that you look at life. If you are a man who only owns one watch then you will probably only want to invest in one pair of cufflinks. In this case they need to be reasonably discreet and not too outlandish, so that they can be used for any occasion.

On the other hand, if you are the man who has several watches with straps in varying colours for mixing or matching with the different clothes colours that you wear on any given day, then you will probably want to start a collection of cufflinks as well. Once you start on this road, who knows where it will end? Collecting cufflinks is becoming a hobby for many men and it is a good fun one too. Who knows, you may even get to the point where you have to invest in a jewellery box to house them all!

The beauty of a collection of cufflinks is that you can select whatever your heart desires to wear on a particular day - and buying cufflinks doesn’t have to be expensive. OK, sure, you can buy cufflinks with expensive jewels in them such as diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, and more, but there are also lots and lots of different designs which are striking, but which can be found for less than 20 quid.

So, when you have a cufflink collection you can also choose to wear a pair that suits your mood for that day. So, if you are going to watch England play in the Euros – if we are still in it by the time you read this – you can wear a pair that are in the design of a football, or better still with the Cross of St George on them. That’ll tell em!

However, if you are going to your daughter’s wedding, you will probably want to wear something a little more restrained. Although, having said that, we did just see a pair with “Father of the Bride” engraved on them!

You can also get a pair of cufflinks such as the ones that we produce at Wimbledon Cufflink Company that celebrate your heritage. So, we have the English Oak cufflinks, the Welsh Dragon cufflinks, the Scottish Lion cufflinks, Shamrock cufflinks, and also American ones such as the Washington and Liberty cufflinks. In fact, you could do no better to start your collection than with one of these pairs.
