Cufflinks have been around since the 1500’s, and over the years they have come into fashion, gone out of fashion, come in again – up and down like two kids on a seesaw. Yet for the cultured gentleman who shows respect for others and as a result wants to look smart, they have always been an essential accessory.
We all know that today it is fashionable to go to the office not just “underdressed” but in many instances very laid-back and looking as though it’s a Saturday, and so you don’t need to dress smartly. That may be the opinion of many people, but do you see the directors of a medium sized or large company looking like that?
Do you see the men on the sales team dressed casually? Of course, you don’t, because the men on the sales team are spending their time visiting customers, and they want to look good and impress them. Jeans and a T-shirt are not going to hack it. So, they wear a smart suit, shirt with a tie, smart black or brown leather shoes to go with the colour of the suit, (NOT brown shoes with a dark grey or blue suit!) and to top it all off, a pair of smart cufflinks – often gold cufflinks.
A Company That Cares
This gives the customer the impression that he or she is dealing with a company that cares and will provide him or her with excellent products or services. It can be all the difference between getting the order and not getting it.
As for types of cufflinks, if you go online and take a look you will see that there are thousands upon thousands of different designs. Many of them are quite brash and “jokey” such as a pair we spotted which says on one link “If Found” and on the other “Return to Wife”. Another pair has “Fat ‘n’ Sexy” on the face, and yet another shows two bottles of HP tomato sauce.
Now those are not the sort of cufflinks that are going to impress anyone at all. You certainly cannot wear those to work, not if you want to keep the job. But most gold cufflinks are restrained and classy and are the sort of thing that will impress people and make you stand out as someone who is to be respected. That is because when you wear a pair of smart and classy cufflinks you are showing respect to others, and the natural consequence is that they will show respect to you.
